The facilitators, Nam and Lily, are co-founders of SHEEEPschool.

Lily (she/they) applies multi-disciplinary methods, intersectional lenses, and creative approaches to design, education, and community organizing. Their work centers on building empathy, engagement, and empowerment through hands-on experiential learning and co-creative praxis. They currently work as the Studio Technologist at U of Tโ€™s Faculty of Architecture by day. They have established and overseen a range of workshop facilities/ makerspaces and programs in past roles including at U of Tโ€™s Faculty of Engineering, TMUโ€™s Design Fabrication Zone, and Toolbox Initiative.ย

Nam (he/him) aims to create more meaningful community participation and advocacy in issues of architecture, making, and urban futures. He is a systemic designer, artist, and foresight practitioner, and is the co-founder of Makeshift Collective โ€“ a multidisciplinary arts and design collective that used to operate a woodshop, photo studio, and sewing studio in Chinatown. Together, we built a space of collective care, creative agency, and experimentation, building a culture of mentorship and skill sharing, running community build projects, and learning the messiness and joy of collective empowerment through making.ย

Curious about learning fabrication techniques, but want to understand the larger context and critiques about it? Want to learn the skills, but donโ€™t see yourself fitting into the โ€œmakerโ€ mold? Have reservations about how the ease of these technologies can result in waste?

Then please join us for Anti-Making Making Club #1: Laser Cutting 101! This is the first workshop of a series where SHEEEPschool gathers a community of like-minded creative critical thinkers and anti-maker-makers for collaborative learning, play, discussions, and making, as we unpack together how we might make things in a meaningful, anti-consumerist, good way. All levels of experience (none to expert) with laser cutting are welcome.
